The Sakhindlela Foundation stands as Vulindlela Holdings’ flagship initiative for communal upliftment. The foundation was formed in 2021. Rooted in our belief in reciprocating the support of the communities that have shaped us and countless others across our nation, we strive to make meaningful contributions. Throughout the years, we have provided essential resources to schools and community clinics, empowering them to reach their fullest potential. Our commitment to community assistance remains unwavering as we continually seek out opportunities to support and uplift communities in need.

Ukukhanya Kwesizwe

Grade 11 Mentorship Programme

To better the livelihood of the youth growing up in Umbumbulu, through education, awareness empowerment and shaping tomorrow whilst instilling the programme’s 4 core values; self confidence, compassion, assertiveness and responsibility. The programme currently runs at Kwa Jabula High School & Saphumula Senior Secondary School.

Career Fair

Sakhindlela, in partnership with the Durban University of Technology (DUT), hosted a career fair at KwaJabula High School. The event was aimed at empowering students with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed decisions about their future careers. The career fair featured a range of activities, including presentations from DUT faculty and industry professionals who shared their expertise on various career paths. Students had the opportunity to explore different fields of study, learn about the qualifications required, and gain insights into the realities of working in different industries. The interactive nature of the event encouraged students to engage directly with experts, ask questions, and explore their interests in a supportive environment.  
The career fair was a significant milestone for KwaJabula High School, leaving students more informed and inspired to pursue their future goals with confidence.

Panel Of Inspiration

The Sakhindlela Foundation annually treats students from Kwa Jabula and Saphumula High School in Umbumbulu to an inspiring panel of young professionals from various backgrounds and careers. This event is designed to expose students to a wide range of career paths and success stories, motivating them to pursue their own ambitions. By interacting with professionals who have overcome diverse challenges to achieve their goals, students gain valuable insights and encouragement. This initiative highlights the Sakhindlela Foundation’s commitment to empowering the youth of Umbumbulu, helping them envision and work towards a successful future.

Substance Abuse Conversations

For the past two years, The Sakhindlela Foundation has partnered with “Look Up with Noni,” a drug & alcohol recovery activist, to educate students in the Umbumbulu area about the dangers of substance abuse. Drawing from her personal experiences, Noni provided students with valuable insights into the risks associated with substance abuse and the importance of making healthy choices. This collaboration underscores the Sakhindlela Foundation’s dedication to empowering the youth of Umbumbulu with the knowledge and resources necessary to lead drug-free lives and build a safer, healthier community.

Rape and GBV Awareness

The Sakhindlela Foundation recently partnered with the Jes Foord Foundation to bring vital education and awareness about rape and gender-based violence (GBV) to students in the Umbumbulu area. This collaborative effort aims to empower young people with knowledge and resources to combat these pressing issues. The Jes Foord Foundation, renowned for its impactful work in supporting survivors and advocating for change, delivered comprehensive workshops and interactive sessions. These initiatives not only informed students about the realities and consequences of rape and GBV but also provided them with tools to recognize, prevent, and address these situations.

Youth Health Empowerment Initiative

The Sakhindlela Foundation worked with #KeReady, a mobile clinic project that prides itself on making healthcare more accessible, relevant, and judgement-free for the youth, to raise awareness among students in the Umbumbulu area about sexual and menstrual health, hygiene, and circumcision. As part of this initiative, #KeReady provided the students with on-site screening and testing, family planning, immunizations, treatments, and other essential health services.

Completed Projects

KwaJabula High School Renovations

Sakhindlela conducted a complete refurbishment of the school campus between December 2018 and February 2019, to assist KwaJabula with providing a more conducive environment to their 440 learners. This included repainting the entire school, ceilings and window frames, fixing floors and windows, installing new gutters and remodeling the driveway with concrete paving. The refurbishment also includes the installation of water taps and fountains, the conversion of an old classroom into a library and the restoration of the school’s storm water drainage system. Vulindlela further installed 2 brand new computer labs and built and furnished a new administration block featuring a boardroom, 4 hod offices. 11 open plan workstations and a kitchenette.

Odidini Clinic

Sakhindlela took the initiative to assist the Odidini clinic by providing a donation towards improving the infrastructure of the clinic through building extensions. The new building extension of just under 200 square metres usable space consists of an emergency room, CCMDD, 2 consulting rooms, boardroom, waiting area, ablution facilities and a 12kva generator.

Putello Primary School Art Centre

Sakhindlela built a 140 square metre multipurpose centre at a lower primary school in Umbumbulu approximately 5km from KwaJabula high school. The centre is being used as an art learning centre, a school hall and a community hall.

Saphumula Senior Secondary School

Saphumula Senior Secondary School underwent a comprehensive refurbishment, featuring a complete overhaul of the roof with new powder-coated IBR sheeting and aluminium guttering, alongside the removal of asbestos. Significant repairs and replacements included over 50 windows, broken glass, and old classroom doors, which were replaced with heavy-duty steel gates and new security burglar bars. Flooring was upgraded with new tiles and epoxy finishes, and new flash plastered ceilings were installed in all classrooms. The entire building was repainted, electrical systems were updated and reconnected to solar panels, and new surveillance lighting was added. New facilities included a guardhouse, a computer lab with 30 computers, a fully equipped science laboratory, and improved staff areas. Landscaping and site levelling were also completed, preparing the school for future expansion. 

Other Initiatives

School Uniform Drive

Sakhindlela distributed school uniforms to schools in and around KwaZulu-Natal, ensuring that every child has access to education without being hindered by the lack of proper attire, thus safeguarding their basic human right to education.​

School Feeding Scheme

Sakhindlela assisted in a programme providing students with nutritious meal to alleviate hunger and improve academic performance.

University Bursaries

Over the last three years, Sakhindlela has been actively supporting tertiary education by covering tuition fees and providing additional learning materials. This initiative aims to promote learning and development, ultimately enhancing the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and qualifications in individuals.
